What's a Blog?

I recently noticed that my empire had a logo that was certainly not the one I had uploaded so I removed what was there and tried to upload my original logo. I couldn't get the upload to work although at least the offending logo was removed.

Could we get Bara to take a look and hopefully fix this so that I could upload a logo of my own choice?

I got no response to this in the Metaverse so I've moved it to the Forum issues forum.

Bara?

Unfortunately I am not longer on the web team at Stardock. I have moved over to the games team working on some super secret special projects (not really ). I'll pass this along to the right people though

Could you please illustrate via a screen capture which logo you are referring to?

Wow, sorry to hear that. Thanks for all you've done to keep the forum pages turning.

Good luck at your new assignment.

Sounds like a promotion. Conratulations

It turns out that the problem is that JPG's no longer work but you can still upload a PNG file.

I didn't figure this out until after I went ahead and generated the screenshots so I'll post them anyway. But apparently we lost JPG support and so all the empires that had originally downloaded a JPG are messed up. The empires that downloaded PNG's are OK.

There still are a number of empire's logo's that are affected by this so at the least you should probably remove the text indicating that JPG's are acceptable but I think it would be good if you could get JPG's to work again.

[edit] Actually it appears the problem is deeper than I originally thought. I posted two JPG screen shots as that is the only format supported by the Image hosting site that I use. Actually *all* of the image hosting sites I use only supply JPG format and so I'm unable to post a screenshot because you no longer seem to support JPG's in a post.

The following are the links to the above images.

Test again

I'm posting from another site (forums.stardock.com). Let's see if there's any difference.

Hmm ... it seems to be working. I guess it's just the Galciv2 site that no longer supports JPG"s.

on Aug 27, 2012

Try again.

Did you do something because it seems to be fixed now?

on Aug 27, 2012

So, it's working for you now? I didn't do anything, but I'm happy to back away slowly with my hands up if it's working now.

Let me give it one more test.

Yeah it seems to be working now.

You're right about not wanting to have to touch the Metaverse sever if you don't have to but I thought that the Galciv2 site itself had been fully modernized. How the site could suddenly stop being able to handle JPG's and then just as suddenly have no problem with them seems to be a problem in and of itself but then I suppose it's pretty hard to debug something you can't replicate.

Oh well I guess we'll just have to wait until it happens again.

Mumbles....there is always the possibility the problem was on 'your end'.  The only 2 images not showing [from WC] on this thread are the first 2 in #5.

All the others show...

on Aug 28, 2012

The first two are page links, not direct links to the images.

I'm not sure how my PC could stop your site from displaying a JPEG hosted on an image hosting site. If I had actually uploaded the file in question from my PC then perhaps I could buy your reasoning but the only difference between what shows and what doesn't is one path was entered as a link and the other was entered as an image, the path in each case is the same and you can see, or should I say you can't see, the difference.

The links not showing are in reply number 6 *prior* to the links. I didn't at first know they wouldn't show, only after I saw the results did I add the text and links following the [edit] tag. As a moderator you might be able to still see the broken links. I know I can if I go in and try to edit that reply.

Yes. They are image tags, but the src is set to a page, not an image:

<img src="//postimage.org/image/unsbdhnqz/" alt="" />

Thus nothing appears.

Ah. That explains why I had trouble with with the images in this thread. I checked the Postimage site and I must have grabbed the "Link" as opposed to the "Direct Link". So forget about what I said about being unable to post a JPG within a thread however it still is true that you cannot load a JPG as your empire logo but you can load a PNG and so the initial issue of my problem still exists.

So my point of either removing the wording that suggests JPG's can be uploaded as empire logo's or fixing it so that JPG's can be uploaded as empire logo's, is still valid.

Actually you can see the issue with The Jedi Republic http://metaverse.galciv2.com/index.aspx?g=empire&id=26.

Also while if someone goes into the metaverse area, check out the "More" command on either the Top Character or Top Empire lists and you'll see that the icons at the bottom of the page that allow you to scroll through the list are messed up and it's not clear where you're going.

Could that get fixed as well?
